Private land ownership doesn’t exist under communism, because even when people legally lease a plot of land to grow crops, the authorities can take it away at any time—without compensation. There are millions of heartbreaking stories of people losing their livelihoods. It happened to Christy Chang’s parents. Chang immigrated to Canada with her husband and two children in 2019.
