House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he is vowing to issue subpoenas to 51 former U.S. intelligence officials who said that the New York Post’s Hunter Biden story in the fall of 2020 may be a Russian disinformation scheme despite no evidence indicating that it was.
“Those 51 intel agents that signed a letter that said the Hunter Biden information was all wrong—was Russia collusion—many of them have a security clearance,” McCarthy, who was elected as House GOP leader after Republicans re-captured the House in November’s midterms, told Fox News on Sunday.
A handful of ex-officials, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, had publicly backed an assessment (pdf) that the NY Post’s report on the younger Biden’s laptop was disinformation. It came as Twitter’s management blocked sharing of the story, including via direct messages, in October 2020—weeks to go before the General Election….
