San Clemente’s homeless community is expected to receive more support with the hiring of a new community outreach worker. City council voted unanimously to add the position to its social services team during a Feb. 16 meeting. “I think it’s a good first step toward a comprehensive addressing of our homeless issue,” Councilmember Chris Duncan said during the meeting. San Clemente had 145 homeless people in the city as of a 2019 count, according to the most recent report from the Point in Time. The coastal city’s newly-approved community outreach worker will help San Clemente coordinate social services efforts and engage in outreach with those experiencing homelessness, the city said.
