Ted Hui Chi-fung, former Hong Kong Legislative Councillor, who announced his self-exile after he went to Denmark in 2020, was charged with four counts of criminal contempt of court. Judge Andrew Chan Hing-wai sentenced Hui in absentia on Sept. 29, to 3.5 years in prison and he must pay the punitive damages. Hui, who currently lives outside Hong Kong, responded on social media by saying “I despised it.”
Hui said in his Facebook post that after the Hong Kong National Security Law became effective, “the courts in Hong Kong have become that of the Communist Party, and political trials and sentences against dissidents have become the norm in Hong Kong.”…
