A relatively high number of Georgia residents have cast their ballots during the state’s early voting phase ahead of the 2022 midterms, according to a news release from the Secretary of State’s office.
As of Saturday morning, approximately 660,000 Georgia voters have cast their ballot during the in-person early voting phase, it said. Another 68,000 people have cast absentee ballots.
Compared with the 2018 midterms, by the same time, about 397,000 in-person ballots were cast, according to the office.
“Friday’s total marks a 51 percent increase from day five of 2018 midterm Early Voting and is only 18 percent less than the total of day five of Early Voting in the 2020 Presidential election,” it said. “Georgia has had record Early Voting turnout since the first day of Early Voting this year, surging to nearly twice the number on the first day of Early Voting in 2018. ”…
