For many years, the Judiciary Committee, which oversees the FBI and the Justice Department, was headed by former Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). During his time in power, Conyers abolished the House Internal Security Committee, which Loudon says was the last line of internal defense between the United States and Soviet and other communist operators.
