A Department of Homeland Security facility took an average of over three days to respond to sick call requests and did not enforce pandemic precautions, a watchdog found. An unannounced remote inspection of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona last year uncovered the violations, which were made public in a report published last week by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General. ICE is part of DHS. Watchdog officials directed a livestream video walk-through of the immigrant holding facility, inspecting detainee housing units, the kitchen, and medical units, among other areas. Officials also reviewed surveillance footage from various places inside the facility, and interviewed ICE personnel, detainees, and facility employees.
