The Department of Homeland Security’s top official on Monday said the Biden administration believes it is a “moral imperative” to reunite migrant families as he blamed the previous administration for the waves of people that agents are seeing at the southern border in recent weeks. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is heading a task force dedicated to family reunification at the direction of President Joe Biden, said options include flying the parents of unaccompanied minors caught at the border to the United States. “We are hoping to reunite the families either here or in the country of origin, we hope to be in a position to give them the selection,” he told reporters during a briefing at the White House in Washington. “And if, in fact, they seek to reunite here in the United States, we will explore lawful pathways for them to remain in the United States and …
