When travel is stressful, a great hotel can gently help harried and weary souls relax.
Thoughtful design goes a long way towards making travelers feel comfortable, and it starts right at the front door. Kellie Sirna, founder and principal of design firm Studio 11, said she likes to evoke that “home away from home experience” as soon as guests step into the lobby. “We like to give the guest a bit of a journey to the reception desk so they have experienced a bit of the hotel prior to check-in,” she said. “Our hope is that by this point, they’ll want to drop their bags and come back down to work or ‘live’ in the public spaces as opposed to being isolated in their rooms.”
