Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday that most COVID-19 restrictions in the nation’s capital will be lifted on May 21, although masks will continue to be mandatory indoors. Bowser made the remarks at a press briefing, during which she cited “dramatic improvements in our health metrics” as the underpinnings for a rollback of restrictions. “We’re very pleased that over the last several days we have seen our case spread, our community spread numbers, venture out of the red, into the yellow, and fast approaching the green,” she said. The mayor said the seven-day moving average of the daily COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 people stood at 6.6, as of May 8, down from a January peak of 45.9.
