As late morning traffic whizzed by northbound near the intersection of Avenida Pico and Avenida La Plata in San Clemente, Calif., the sunshine and light sea breeze failed to mask the fatality that occurred just a few hours prior.
At approximately 1:25 a.m. on June 7, Joshua Gene Cervantes, 40, of San Juan Capistrano, was fatally struck by a vehicle in what investigators are labeling as a hit-and-run incident while he was riding near the area of the intersection.

When Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies of the Major Accident Reconstructive Team arrived on scene, they immediately attempted life-saving CPR measures to revive Cervantes, whose body was found with head and neck trauma….
