Beijing has been cracking down on Chinese civil organizations and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in recent weeks. NGOs have been recognized as a potential threat that could instigate a color revolution, which would undermine the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Former Chinese leader Hu Jintao implemented policies in 2005 to prevent color revolutions from erupting in China. The color revolution generally refers to the mass non-violent movement, marked by different colors as symbols, that took place in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe to overthrow dictatorship and tyranny in the early 21st century.
