In a global ranking of 30 countries with universal health-care programs, Canada ranks near the bottom for its number of doctors, hospital beds, MRIs, and long wait times, despite being one of the highest-spending countries on health care, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.
The study, “Comparing Performance of Universal Health Care Countries, 2022,” released on Nov. 10, compared Canada to 30 other developed countries—using a “value for money approach,” assessing cost against availability and use of resources, access to medical care, clinical performance, and quality.
Canada spent more on health care than most of the other countries in the ranking, but its performance ranked modest to poor in most categories, according to the study….
