The Freedom Foundation, a national nonprofit based in Orange, California, helped approximately 2,000 California teachers and school employees opt out of six major state unions this year—a record high, according to the organization, which formed in 1991. “There is definitely a movement happening, and it’s very apparent that [teachers and school staff] are fed up,” Rachel Weigel, California’s outreach director for the foundation, told The Epoch Times. There are over 300,000 members in the union representing teachers in California. But according to Weigel, those numbers are dwindling. Currently, there are key factors attributing to the trend of teachers withdrawing from their unions—such as the inclusion of Critical Race Theory and what’s called Comprehensive Sexuality Education in public school curricula.
