California’s tax base shrank by nearly $29.1 billion as it saw a net loss of 332,000 taxpayers and their dependents, according to recent IRS migration data. The exodus is caused by many factors, including rising crime, businesses moving out-of-state, high taxes, and high housing costs. A new documentary “Leaving California: The Untold Story” aims to reverse this trend by revealing the root cause of the challenges average Californians face. According to Chapman University Economics Professor James Doti, who has studied migration trends in California, the trend began in 2011.
“It has been more than 10 years, but it has been gradually increasing,” Doti told EpochTV’s California Insider.
