California Gov. Gavin Newsom has sued Secretary of State Shirley Weber, whom he recently appointed to his administration, to include his party preference on the ballot in the recall election expected later this year. The lawsuit, filed on June 28 in Sacramento County Superior Court, was first reported by Courthouse News Service. It claims that a mistake made 16 months ago prevents Newsom’s Democratic party affiliation from appearing on the ballot, but that the Secretary of State can still make the change.
