Kids these days spend too much time parked in front of a screen. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, children ages 8 to 12 in the U.S. spend an average of 4 to 6 hours a day watching screens, with teens spending up to 9 hours. But the World Health Organization notes that the recommended screen time for kids, especially those below the age of 6, should be limited to an hour on weekdays and 3 hours on weekends. The priority for them is to have restful sleep and ample time for physical activities.
But parents have a hard time controlling their kids’ screen time, what with the plethora of apps and shows specifically created for children. But as much as you can, it’s better to limit the content they consume, and if you want them to thrive in school in the future, you may want to start as early as now. After all, they always say to start them young. If they’re going to have screen time anyway, it would do them best to engage in digital activities that would benefit them in the long run. HOMER is an app that boosts your kids’ learning capacity, and for a limited time, you can grab a 3-month subscription for less than $5 as part of our Back to Education event….
