President Joe Biden has ordered a review of a Trump-era rule on how colleges and universities handle complaints of sexual misconduct under Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination at federally-funded education programs. In an executive order signed on Monday, Biden directed the newly-confirmed Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to review the education department’s rules, policies, and regulations, and consider “suspending, revising, or rescinding” agency actions that are potentially inconsistent with the policy of the new administration. “It is the policy of the my administration that all students should be guaranteed an educational environment free from discrimination on the basis of sex, including in the form of sexual harassment, which encompasses sexual violence, and including discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity,” Biden’s executive order reads.
