IRVINE, Calif.—Authorities destroyed 60 pounds of confiscated homemade explosives June 8 at the Frank R. Bowerman landfill, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Scott Steinle told The Epoch Times that the explosive material was seized over the last year.
Prior to destroying the explosives, Steinle said, they were used for training the department’s canine units.
“Our canine explosive team works hand in hand with John Wayne Airport, TSA, and security to make sure that no explosives have access to any airplanes,” Steinle said.
Authorities dispose of such explosive material about four times a year.
On hand were Orange County Sheriff tactical medics and members of the Orange County Fire Authority, and the county’s Health Care Agency….
