After the implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong, Australia introduced immigration measures to lower the threshold for Hong Kong residents to immigrate to Australia and prioritized the applications in the category of skilled workers.
The Australian Government introduced the immigration scheme “Hong Kong stream” for Hong Kong residents in July 2020.  Under the scheme, temporary visas for skilled workers and university graduates for Hong Kong residents who are holders of the British National Overseas (BNO) passport would be extended for 5 years.
Also, the Government announced new pathways for Hong Kong residents to gain permanent residency by listing Hong Kong as an independent group in the categories of “independent skilled worker visas” and “skilled workers in remote areas visas.” Furthermore, the Australian Government indicated that the “highest priority” to Hong Kong residents’ immigrant visa applications is in the category of skilled workers….
