At least 19 people, including nine children, have died in a high-rise apartment fire in the Bronx, officials said. At least 32 people were taken to five hospitals. Officials told WABC7 and other local media that nine children are among the fatalities in the blaze. “This is going to be one of the worst fires we have witnessed here in modern times in the City of New York,” Mayor Eric Adams said during a news conference on Sunday. Thirty-two people were transported to five hospitals, with the majority of the victims suffering from severe smoke inhalation, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. Firefighters “found victims on every floor and were taking them out in cardiac and respiratory arrest,” he said. “That is unprecedented in our city.
