Strokes are a common occurrence in the U.S. with around 800,000 reported per year, and 20 percent afflicting adults between the ages of 20 to 55. The timing of treatment after a stroke is crucial and can make a vast difference in the quality of the remainder of a person’s life.
A research team at the School of Chinese Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, found that An Gong Niu Huang Wan (AGNHW), a classic Chinese medicine prescription, can extend the “golden treatment time window” within which thrombolytic therapy for patients with ischemic stroke by 30 minutes, reducing the risk of cerebral hemorrhage and mortality.
