July 20 marks a solemn anniversary. It is the day one of the most unconscionable persecution campaigns in the history of mankind began—one that is still continuing. For many years, it was an obscure anniversary, but people around the world have increasingly become aware of it.
On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched its persecution campaign against Falun Gong, a peaceful spiritual practice. Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, teaches the three principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, and in the 1990s, the number of adherents ballooned to 100 million by some estimates. Despite the propaganda, violent arrests, torture, live organ harvesting, and other physical and financial means of persecution that the CCP employed with the force of its entire state apparatus, Falun Gong continued to grow around the globe, simply through word of mouth….
