“Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong,” commonly known as “The Little Red Book,” was translated into dozens of languages during the Cultural Revolution (1966 – 1976) and more than one billion copies were exported to other countries to brainwash the world. Today, half a century later, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is picking up this “red” tradition, and giving Amazon’s China Books a key role. On July 14, Mareike Ohlberg, senior fellow at German Marshall Fund, tweeted, “By sheer coincidence, I came across the Amazon China Bookstore. It’s a joint project of Amazon and the China International Book Trading Corporation, a company under the CCP’s Foreign Languages Office.
