Air quality warnings have been issued for Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and Fraser Canyon, and are expected to last until Sunday amid a heatwave covering most of B.C. and Alberta.
A July 27 statement from Environment Canada said the warnings were issued due to “high concentrations of ground-level ozone” expected to persist through the week.
“A plume of wildfire smoke from the Nohomin Creek fire (near Lytton, BC) is currently contributing to hazy conditions over the region but there has been no significant impact on measured fine particulate matter concentrations at ground-level,” said the statement.
Most regions in British Colombia covered by the heat warning are expected to reach between 34 Celsius to 38 Celsius. Some southern regions could see highs of up to 41 C….
