A rising number of Americans are saying that the country has been more accepting of transgender identities than necessary, data from the latest NBC News poll show.
The poll asked survey respondents whether American society has a) gone too far in accepting transgender people, b) not gone far enough in ending discrimination against transgender people, or c) reached a reasonable balance when it comes to this issue.
While 33 percent of survey participants agreed with option a), 35 percent went with option b) while 25 percent went with option c). When the same questions were posed back in August 2021, only 26 percent agreed that acceptance of transgender people had gone too far. That’s almost a 27 percent increase, within 9 months. The poll, conducted May 5–7 and May 9–10, involved 1,000 adults.
