California Gov. Gavin Newsom held a press conference March 3 at California State University –Long Beach, where he discussed the state’s rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations. The conference came shortly after Newsom toured the university’s two vaccination sites. During his visit, the governor touted the state’s inoculation efforts. “We’ve designed a system that currently provides the ability to administer 2.7 million doses every single week,” Newsom told reporters. “As I said last week, last seven days 1.73 [million doses]. Our goal is to design a system that can do 4 million vaccines every single week. Again, the only constraint is manufacture supply at this point, that’s really the issue.” Beginning this week, the state will reserve at least 75,000 doses as well as 10 percent of all new vaccines for educators, in an effort to reopen schools as quickly and safely as possible, Newsom said.
