Pennsylvania State House lawmakers formed a bi-partisan committee on July 11 to investigate the troubling crime spree in Philadelphia, the state’s largest city.
The Republican-controlled House empowers the committee to subpoena witnesses and documents from Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
The office is at the helm of Larry Krasner, a frontline figure in the national progressive prosecutor movement. Under Krasner, Philadelphia’s murders jumped to 353 in 2018, 356 in 2019, 499 in 2020, and 562 in 2021—the deadliest year ever recorded in the city’s history.
