Although the lockdown measures in Shanghai are easing, residents are experiencing some distinct phenomena as the city is not yet back to normal.
Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Li Qiang declared “victory in the battle to protect the big Shanghai,” at the once-every-five-year municipal CCP representatives meeting on June 25. The so-called “victory” implied that there were no domestic cases of COVID-19. Indeed, Shanghai Municipal Health Commission’s daily report showed no new cases on June 24 and June 25.
However, on June 26, the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission’s data showed 4 new domestic cases, which watered down Li Qiang’s victory.
In his speech, Li Qiang did not mention the zero-COVID policy, nor the draconian lockdown, nor the mandatory PCR testing of 25 million people. Li simply attributed the “victory” to “the absolute correctness of the CCP Central’s leadership and the incomparable advantage (over the West) of the socialist system.”…
