There was a decline in the number of Americans filing for new unemployment benefit claims for the week ending May 28, according to latest data from the U.S. Labor Department.
The advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 200,000, down 11,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 211,000.
The four-week moving average was 206,500 new claims, down 500 from the previous week’s revised average of 207,000, the Labor Department said.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment for the week ending May 21 was 1.31 million, dropping by 34,000. This is the lowest level for insured unemployment since 1969.
