LOS ANGELES, Calif.—In the first-ever meeting between Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Orange County Soccer Club (OCSC) in a third-round matchup of the U.S. Open Cup, the result was expected as the Western Conference MLS leaders dominated the lower division OCSC, 5–1 at Banc of California Stadium Wednesday night.
The reigning USL champion, OCSC, has competed in the U.S. Open Cup since the 2011 season, and has yet been able to get past an MLS team in three previous matchups. They defeated NISA (third division) side LA Force, 5–2, in this year’s Second Round.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, began its inaugural tournament in the 1913–1914 season, making it the oldest in America. A record 103 professional and amateur USSF (United States Soccer Federation) affiliated teams are competing this year.
