China’s Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) kicked off on April 20. The three-day annual forum gathers world leaders from government, academia, and business in Boao, in China’s Hainan Province, to promote economic globalization and international cooperation.
Conferences, seminars, and workshops will be convened to provide a “high-level venue” for dialogue and idea exchange in the scope of economic, social, environmental, and related issues, according to the BFA Charter.
Originally founded under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership in 2001 and holding its first meeting in 2002, the non-profit organization was incorporated with 26 other Asian countries.
Its stated mission at its founding, “promoting economic integration in Asia,” has evolved into “pooling positive energy for the development of Asia and the world.”
