Four different videos of a recent fatal officer-involved shooting were made public on April 13 by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
After showing the videos at a 3 p.m. live-streamed press conference, Police Chief Eric Winstrom, who is also an attorney, said the case would come down to the test of “whether deadly force was needed to prevent death or great bodily harm to the officer.”
“To avoid any conflict of interest, the investigation will be conducted by the Michigan State Police. I will have no access to that investigation,” Winstrom said.
The footage of a dashcam, bodycam, cellphone, and a home surveillance camera captured what started off as a traffic stop that escalated into a deadly confrontation.
