TORONTO—Ontario MPP Christina Mitas said she was moved to tears while seeing one of the Shen Yun Performing Arts dance scenes related to the persecution of Falun Dafa in today’s China under communist rule. “I thought that was very, very powerful,” Ms. Mitas said. The piece is one of the many story-based dances in Shen Yun, which take the audience on a journey through China’s 5,000 years of history and culture, from ancient times to the present. Based in New York, Shen Yun was formed in 2006 by Chinese artists to revive China’s traditional culture which has been suppressed for decades by the Chinese Communist Party. The performing arts company presents classical Chinese dance and music, travelling the world each year to stage its performances.
