A China Eastern Airlines jet carrying 132 people crashed in southeast China on March 21, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) confirmed. The number of casualties is not immediately known. There were 123 passengers and nine crew members on board, CAAC said. The crash of the Boeing 737 aircraft caused fires in mountainous areas near Wuzhou city of Guangxi Province, state broadcaster CCTV reported. Rescue teams have been deployed. The aircraft was on a flight from the city of Kunming to Guangzhou. Flight MU5735 departed Kunming city at 1:11 p.m. local time, FlightRadar24 data showed. It was scheduled to arrive in Guangzhou at 3:05 p.m. There was no word on the cause of the crash. The plane was a 6-year-old 737-800 aircraft, according to Flightradar24.
