Commentary When I was 11 years old, my family moved from our sunny home (the only home that I knew at that time) to the very rainy northwestern part of Washington State, only miles from the Canadian border and the province of British Columbia (B.C.). I had known about Canada from my geography and history classes but this was the beginning of my experience with the real deal. This is the story of my sojourn with Canada. My family owned a dairy farm and I became a 4-H Club member. As such, I traveled to the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) that was held in Vancouver, B.C. Most of that experience was participating in an international 4-H cattle judging contest. In 1973, I placed third (much to my surprise) at the PNE.
