Final details worked out Thursday will allow jury selection to begin on Feb. 28 in the first criminal trial of the more than 750 people charged with crimes at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. United States District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich will call 80 potential jurors in the District of Columbia trial of Guy Wesley Reffitt, 49, of Wylie, Texas. Reffitt is the first Jan. 6 defendant to go to trial, although many other defendants have accepted plea deals with reduced charges. Reffitt has been held in federal detention since his arrest on Jan. 16, 2021. Testimony could begin late Tuesday or early Wednesday once the 12 jurors and four alternates are seated.
