Telstra will start up its job-cutting program again after a year-long hiatus due to the onset of COVID-19. The retrenchment program aimed at saving the company AU$1 billion will remove 1,425 positions across the company as part of the telco’s T22 program. “As you all know, last year we put our T22 job reductions on hold when COVID hit,” Telstra CEO Andy Penn told staff in the memo obtained by The Australian. “We did this to give you as much certainty as we could during a very challenging time,” he said. “We also said we would have to move ahead on these early this year as we continue to transform the company and complete our T22 journey.
