Ottawa’s police chief Peter Sloly has resigned, according to a tweet by an Ottawa city councillor. Riley Brockington says the official announcement will be made by the Police Services Board after a meeting that’s closed to the public. Ottawa’s police board said it would hold a public meeting to address the matter today at 2:30 p.m. The news comes amid the ongoing protests in Ottawa against the government’s COVID-19 mandates. The protests were initiated by truck drivers opposed to COVID-19 vaccination mandates for cross-border travel. As convoys of truckers made their to Ottawa, many supporters joined the movement, which turned into a large-scale protest against all COVID-19 mandates and restrictions.
