Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak on Thursday became the latest Democrat governor to ease or remove mask mandates in recent days, despite federal health officials’ recommendation to keep masking in most settings. Sisolak, who is up for reelection in 2022, said in publicly available remarks that “given all of these updates and the tools we have, now is the appropriate time for me to announce that Nevada will rescind our mask mandate, effective immediately.” The governors of New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, New York, and California—all Democrats—have announced the easing of their respective mask mandates, coming as data shows COVID-19 cases dropping nationwide.
