More than 2,000 law enforcement personnel in Los Angeles County are either ill or quarantining at home due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, according to Los Angeles County officials. Drake Madison, an officer with Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), told The Epoch Times that as of Jan. 20, there are 1,134 out of approximately 12,200 employees who have tested positive and are currently quarantining at home. This figure has increased by over 40 percent since Jan 11. The total number of officers who are out due to COVID-19 was 89 during the week ending on Christmas, according to LAPD Chief Michel Moore. In the past two years, LAPD has lost a number of officers from complications of COVID-19, including Becky Strong, Valentin Martinez, Dexter De Los Santos, Phil Sudario, Sgt. Fred Cueto, and Sgt.
