A neighboring country of Kazakhstan has cancelled its exports of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) to China. It comes after demonstrations over steep price rises of LPG in the west of Kazakhstan spread across the country, propelling Kazakh President Kassym-Jokmart Tokayev to call on allies from the Russian-backed Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to send in peacekeeping forces as government security forces clamped down on continuing unrest. Uzbekistan, a country of 34 million bordering Kazakhstan, will cancel all of its exports of LPG to China after public frustration over fuel shortages were first noted by the country’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in August 2021.
