LOS ANGELES—A top aide to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon sued the Azusa Police Department Jan. 6, alleging officers violated his civil rights “with evil motive and intent” when they arrested him for allegedly being drunk in public. Joseph Iniguez, 36, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after officers pulled over a Tesla driven by his fiance just before midnight on Dec. 11. On Wednesday, Azusa police released to the Los Angeles Times several pages of documents in response to a public records request. The documents show that an officer claimed Iniguez had “bloodshot” eyes and was slurring his speech when he allegedly interfered with the lawman’s actions during the vehicle stop, according to the Los Angeles Times.
