Washington’s mayor has declared a state of emergency over COVID-19. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, on Monday also reinstated an indoor mask mandate and announced a stricter COVID-19 vaccine mandate for city workers. Bowser said she imposed the restrictions because of the emergence of the Omicron variant of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus. The CCP virus causes COVID-19. Omicron is now the dominant variant of the virus in the United States. Early data indicates it’s more transmissible than earlier strains but causes a lower percentage of severe cases. “I think we’re all tired of it. I’m tired of it too. But we have to respond to what’s happening in our city and what’s happening in our nation,” Bowser told reporters during a press conference. COVID-19 cases have been rising in the district in recent weeks. The 7-day case rate was 300 per 100,000 population, up from 83 the month prior. …
