A military helicopter carrying 14 people went down in southern India, and only one person on board the aircraft survived, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed on Wednesday. The dead included India’s military chief, Gen. Bipin Rawat, and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, the air force said—adding that one officer, Group Capt. Varun Singh, survived the crash and is being treated in a military hospital in the state of Tamil Nadu. “With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs. Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,” the IAF said in a statement on social media.
