Commentary There is a popular bumper sticker often seen in Alberta. It says: “Oh please God let there be another oil boom. I promise not to piss it all away this time.” The bumper sticker originated during the oil price crash during the late 1980s. It then resurfaced during the oil price crashes of 1997, 2008, 2015, and 2020. As fortunes appear to be rising again for the oil and gas sector and the governments dependent on revenue from it, have Albertans learned to heed their own advice yet? Alberta Premier Jason Kenney was outright jubilant when announcing the most recent provincial budget update.
