Nebraska on Friday became the sixth U.S. state to report at least one case of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron virus variant, with officials suspecting the variant was brought to a household from Nigeria. Some of the patients in the United States who contracted the variant were fully vaccinated. Just one of the six cases identified in Nebraska had gotten a vaccine, the Nebraska Public Health Solutions District said in a statement. Officials believe the variant was brought to the state by an individual who traveled to Nigeria and returned on Nov. 23. That person began showing symptoms the following day and soon tested positive. The other five patients are believed to have been exposed through household contact with the first patient.
