The number of Chicago police officers on criminal misconduct charges jumped significantly in 2021, according to records obtained by The Epoch Times. In 2021, four Chicago police officers and one Chicago police lieutenant were criminally charged for excessive use of force while on duty. Another three were charged for off-duty criminal misconducts. Between 2017 and 2020, only one or two Chicago police officers were charged annually for criminal misconduct, according to records provided by Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO.) CCSAO has a dedicated unit to investigate and prosecute police officers for criminal misconduct, including excessive force, home invasion, intimidation, soliciting bribes, and sexual assault.
