The Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory had released a statement saying the organisation was not adequately consulted before Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced new restrictions for remote communities. In the media release on Nov.10, AMSANTĀ Chief Executive John Paterson said that “with regard to the requirement for rapid antigen testing and mask wearing in remote communities below 70% first vaccination levels for people 16 years and over, AMSANT was not included in discussions about the justification for this specific new measure.” The new restrictions announced by GunnerĀ are to take effect from Nov. 15. In addition, anyone entering these communities from Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, or outside the Territory will have to wear a mask in public areas for seven days, and from Nov. 19, they will also need to test negative to COVID-19 via rapid antigen testing within 72 hours of entering a community.
