An EU rapporteur is raising concerns about foreign interference in the European Union, in particular that coming from the communist regime in China. “We cannot accept that there is still no taskforce monitoring interference coming from China,” stated Sandra Kalniete, a Latvian member of the European Parliament, in her draft report (pdf) released last month. China’s foreign interference actions were committed to “undermining democratic functioning in order to gain influence.” Kalniete is also a rapporteur for the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation. She is set to present her report on Nov. 9 during a European inter-parliamentary committee meeting that is scheduled to be live-streamed.
